手ぬぐい「神奈川沖浪裏」 冨嶽三十六景・葛飾北斎
江戸時代の浮世絵師・葛飾北斎の代表作「富嶽三十景」の浮世絵を熟練の職人が注染てぬぐいに染め上げました。
神奈川の沖合で大波に翻弄される舟、遠景に堂々とした麗姿を見せる富士山が描かれた人気の江戸名所絵。別名「波裏に富士」。浮世絵のぼかしや立体的な構図などを忠実に手拭いに再現しています。 江戸文化を代表する伝統の古典作品「富岳三十六景」は、海外の印象派の画家たちにも大きな影響を与えました。

Ukiyo-e Tenugui: The Great Wave off Kanagawa
This Tenugui features a beautifully dyed reproduction of the iconic Ukiyo-e print from Katsushika Hokusai’s celebrated series, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. Skilled artisans have meticulously dyed this design using the Chusen technique, preserving the depth and movement of the original artwork.
Depicting boats caught in the midst of powerful waves off the coast of Kanagawa, with the majestic Mount Fuji standing tall in the background, this scene is also known as “Beneath the Wave off Kanagawa”. The composition’s dramatic perspective, delicate shading, and three-dimensional effect have been faithfully reproduced on this Tenugui.
As one of the most renowned masterpieces of the Edo period, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji played a significant role in shaping Japanese art and culture, even influencing Impressionist painters in the West.
